A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of our dining room table on instagram. I immediately started getting questions on where we purchased it, but the thing is, we didn't buy it. We made it!
A couple of years ago, we were on the prowl for a new dining table, but had the worst luck finding one we liked. They were either to small, to traditional or just not our style. We knew we wanted something mid-century modern but with a rustic twist but that didn't seem to exist. That's when we had the idea to make our own.
We found a wood farm (is that a thing?) on craigslist that had thousands (maybe millions) of reclaimed boards. The boards we picked out were once a barn! How freakin' fun is that? We brought those bad boys home and started the search for bad ass legs. We eventually decided on hairpin legs.

Perfect, right?! The ultimate mid-century legs to go with the ultimate rustic top.
Once we had all our supplies, it was time to make that table our bitch.
The wood was so gorgeous, we wanted to keep it au naturale. We didn't use a stain, but we did seal it with a light coat of polyurethane.
We lined all of our boards up, and attached them to each other with three 2x4's and drilled in the legs.
.

Boom. We now have a table.
You don't get much easier than that! #amiright

Beautiful dining room table. Great DIY work.

DeleteWe were in the same situation a few years ago! We couldn't find a table we liked so we spent months eating on the sofa haha. We did find a guy who did reclaimed wood tables but wayyyy over our budget. Wish we could have done it ourselves like you guys. That table looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jolina! Next time you need a table, building it is definitely the way to go. So inexpensive and fun! :)
DeleteLove this table! We're kind of in the same boat right now. Our tiny dining room won't really fit the tables we like and the ones that do fit look so cheap. My husband keeps joking that maybe he'll just building one... LOL! I'm going to share this post with him - maybe we will just building!
ReplyDeleteDo it! It was a breeze to build and I *think the supplies were only about $150 which you can't beat. Plus it's fun knowing that we made it! :)
DeleteOh my gosh! This is beautiful! Your beautiful blog and your photography is just the cherry on top :) You've definitely inspired me to make my own pieces like this!
